WiMAX Forum Initiates Global Strategic Partnership with Eonti To Secure AeroMACS Networks

19-Jul-2017

This Partnership Delivers AeroMACS PKI Implementation and Management

CLACKAMAS, OR – July 19, 2017 – The WiMAX Forum®, the leading nonprofit organization that certifies and promotes the compatibility and interoperability of broadband wireless products based upon IEEE Standard 802.16, announced today the signing of a global strategic partnership agreement with Eonti Inc. (Eonti) to implement and manage the Aeronautical Mobile Airport Communication System (AeroMACS) Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). This development is a crucial step to commercializing the AeroMACS PKI so communications on the airport surface are secure and promote the overall safety and regularity of flight.

The WiMAX Forum, as the PKI Management Authority, will provide oversight and guidance for the AeroMACS PKI. On behalf of the WiMAX Forum, Eonti provides end-to-end management services for a trusted PKI to support the PKI Management Authority. This helps meet the WiMAX Forum’s objectives and ensure that the PKI operates according to the AeroMACS policies developed through the collaboration of Eonti and the WiMAX Forum Aviation Working Group (AWG).

The partnership between the WiMAX Forum and Eonti ensures that the WiMAX Forum meets specific technical, business, and security needs of the AeroMACS PKI while keeping it affordable, efficient, and effective for all involved. This approach leverages other partnerships with PKI service providers such as Comodo, Symantec, and the AWG to support a secure and effective PKI. Without central management, many aspects of the PKI would erode, eventually leading to the breakdown of the trust infrastructure, which is non-negotiable for AeroMACS. Eonti will develop trust, control risk, institute efficient techniques and methods, and leverage economic scales. Central to the WiMAX Forum selecting Eonti was its proven experience in implementing and managing PKIs for organizations such as CableLabs.

“We are excited about this partnership with Eonti that will enable us to deliver security and protection to AeroMACS networks, helping us fulfill the international directive for AeroMACS to support the safety and regularity of flight,” said Declan Byrne, WiMAX Forum President. “Through their three-pillar approach of governance, implementation, and operations management, Eonti reduces liability, builds and maintains a healthy and reliable PKI, promotes adoption, and provides affordability.”

Said Oscar Marcia, Eonti President, “The Eonti team has over 25 years of experience advising, designing, deploying, and operating PKI solutions for various industries worldwide. On behalf of the WiMAX Forum, we are committed to the successful implementation and management of the AeroMACS PKI. We are prepared to demonstrate commitment in both the quality and the cost-effectiveness of our services.”
